Moss Vale avoid wooden spoon with another draw

10 Aug, 2009 10:00 AM
TWO late goals by Bundanoon snatched a competition point with a 2-2 draw against Moss Vale on Saturday.

Despite the missed opportunity for a rare win, the Moss Vale boys still had plenty of reason to celebrate, with the point taking them off the bottom of the competition ladder, ahead of Mittagong on goal difference.

The two teams are anchored on five points but the Lions’ horrendous goal difference of -49 sinks them into last place, behind Moss Vale (-16).

Mittagong have a bye next weekend and with no points awarded for the week off, they will finish last unless Moss Vale loses by 33 goals or more to Exeter next Saturday.

Moss Vale manager Pete Wattel said his team’s late season surge had lifted the players’ spirits.

“We were up 2-nil but to their credit they pulled two goals back and split the points,” Wattel said.

“It was a good game and Peter Ragno’s goal was a highlight.”

Ragno scored a sensational volley from 25metres out to double the lead, after Colin Lowe had made it 1-0 early on.

Wattel said Moss Vale expected a physical match against Exeter next week and would try and spoil Exeter’s minor premiership party by taking atleast a point off their arch-rivals.
