A FIRST half hat-trick by Moss Vale’s Colin Lowe almost clinched the upset of the season at Church Road on Saturday.
But two second-half goals saw last year’s grand finalists Robertson-Burrawang escape with a 3-3 draw, but they will need to make some drastic improvement if they are to play off for the title again this year.
Moss Vale rocketed to a 3-0 lead inside the first half-hour as crosses and free kicks repeatedly found Lowe unmarked in the 18-yard box.
Lowe slotted each home, before a Robertson comeback.
Paul Bartlett scored Robertson’s first just before the break to make it 3-1 at halftime, before second stanza goals to Matt Fernandez and Adam Bartlett levelled the match.
Robertson coach Damien Plain said his team was shell-shocked as Moss Vale raced to a 3-0 lead.
“”They came out ready to play and we weren’t,” he said.
“It’s a game we should have won but we played a very ordinary first half.”
Plain said Moss Vale were a physical side capable of causing a few more upsets this year.
The draw takes Moss Vale of the bottom of the table and they are now in sixth spot, ahead of cellar-dwellers Bundanoon on goal difference.
Robertson-Burrawang are still in fourth place, nine points off the lead.
Both teams have a bye next weekend.
