HILL TOP’S second grade men booked their place in tomorrow’s grand final with a resounding 3-0 win over local rivals Yerrinbool/Bargo at Exeter Oval last Saturday.
Honours were shared in the team’s previous two encounters, with the home side prevailing on each occasion.
With the winner to play Bowral United in the decider, the two neighbouring villages from either side of the Hume highway were keen to book their spot against Bowral.
The Kookaburras started in emphatic fashion, dominating all aspects of play until they scored their first goal.
Andrew “Raegul” Rae sent a lovely curling corner kick that Mick Allan latched on to and caressed passed the goalkeeper to take an early, and ever so important, lead.
Yerrinbool showed some resistance but the Kookaburras put an end to it in the 20th minute when Dean Felber produced some fancy footwork to get around an entire forward line and put Nathan Murray into score and make it 2-0.
Zac Connolly scored Hill Top’s third when a free kick from the left wing pinballed its way around a congested forward line to find Connolly’s right boot. He cooly slotted it into the nylon netting.
The second half was a more evenly contested affair, with the Bushrangers tightening up their defence and ball security.
The second half was rather lacklustre but Hill Top had already dealt the required damage to book a place in the final.
