SUMMER ended last week and so too did summer soccer.
On the first day of March, the summer soccer finals were held in misty and cold conditions at the Church Road fields in Moss Vale.
Grand final night capped a successful season for the Moss Vale Soccer Club’s 14th straight year as summer soccer hosts.
This year, 52 teams entered across 10 divisions; six men’s and four women’s.
The first-division winners on the night were Highlands FC-packed Bisch Bosch in men’s, while Hot DUX won the women’s.
Bisch Bosch claimed the premier division with a hard-fought 4-3 win over Rec Hazard.
Bisch captain Scott Friedewald scored a hat-trick of goals to take his season tally to 26 - the highest of any player in first division and the second highest of any player in summer soccer.
Hot DUX beat perennial bridesmaids Bullfrogs 5-1, with the winners’ goals scored by Irene Fava (two), Rachel Hayes (two) and Pauline Casson.
Bullfrogs are one of the teams that have played in the summer competition since the inaugural year of 1996/97, 14 years ago.
Last week they played their 14th straight all age women’s first division grand final, but unfortunately their loss means they have still only won three finals.
Other winners on the night included Chev Old Boys, Numpty’s, Thistle, Captain Planet, The Incrediballs, Wii Not Fit, Gems and Burrawangers.
The competition’s top scorer was Virginia Ritchie from the third-division Gems.
Ritchie scored 28 goals over the summer, including three goals in the 3-1 grand final win.
