ONLY three Southern Highland teams took the field in round seven due to the under-10s having a bye and the under-9s and 11s receiving forfeits.
The games played were all high scoring affairs, especially the under-15s who, although they kicked over 100-points, still could not match a strong Shellharbour outfit.
Ben Farrell dominated for the Hawks with six goals. He was well supported around the ground by Phil Syrros and Ben Kolster.
Kolster also had a good day in front of the big sticks and bagged five majors.
Oliver Hart and Oliver Holmes were also good contributors.
Coach Steve Lowe was pleased with the way his side is developing, especially as it was necessary to bring up four under-13s against the Swans.
The under-13s continued on their winning way and were far too strong for their traditional rivals, Northern Tigers, scoring 18-9 to 3-5.
The midfield quartet of Luther Canute, Lachlan Maples, Tim Coenen and Gareth Maples had a field day and cleared the ball beautifully from the centre bounces on almost every occasion.
When the Tigers did manage to take the ball forward, Callum Hyde-Liddell, Jonathon Chillcott and Jack O’Dowd were incredibly strong and allowed their opponents only eight scoring shots.
The under-12s overwhelmed their opposition and had 24 scoring shots to the Eagles’ two in a very one-sided game.
A feature of this game was the excellent use of handballs by the Hawks.
Under-12s coach Mark Scott was also delighted with the strong running game produced by all his players who were ever alert to find a player in a better position and share the ball around.
Three of the local under-17s took another step in their development in last Saturday’s South Coast competition round when they stepped up to play reserves for Nowra against Ulladulla.
Marco Basaglia, Hunter Schraeder-Wright amd Joel Stankiewicz all acquitted themselves well.
They were also part of another Nowra-Highlands under 17 victory, this time against Kiama played under lights.
