Farrell bags seven as Hawks 15s pump Lions

JOCK Brown Oval at Shellharbour is proving to be a happy hunting ground for the under-10s who came out on top in a very entertaining game against the Swans.

Jay Herrod is in top form and unloaded a monster kick which still has everyone shaking their heads in amazement.

Matthew Worden was another to catch the eye with a couple of great goals and Lauren Cox put on a great smother to win the praise of her coach.

In the first of three games at North Dalton Park, the Hawks under-11s had a good win at the expense of the Lions.

Slowly but surely, this group of Hawks is showing pleasing development as the new players catch up on their skills.

The all-conquering under-13s had their closest game for the season in round nine.

They needed all the goals that Luther Canute and Max Moran were able to score on the end of good teamwork up the ground.

Lachlan Shepherd and Jonathan Chilcott played strongly in defence and one of Lachlan’s marks in the second quarter was straight out of the textbook.

Ben Farrell’s brilliant play was missed by the under-15s squad in the last round, but he made up for it this week against the Lions.

Farrell booted a bagful of majors to help his side to a mammoth victory.

Eight Hawks kicked six pointers in a real scoring spree. A continuation of this form could see the Hawks scrape into the finals.

As a result of their latest win, the Nowra-Highlands combined side sits at the top of the under-17 ladder, three games clear of the field.

The Blues enjoyed a four-goal margin at the end of their clash with second-placed Ulladulla and all the locals again acquitted themselves well.

There was not a lot of joy at this yea’s Paul Kelly Cup regional finals played at Wollongong recently.

Nearly 400 Year 5 and Year 6 students from 18 schools, between Kiama in the south , Waniora in the north and the Southern Highlands to the west, took part.

In the boys section, Tudor House missed a place in the finals after losing the semi-final by one point.

Bowral and Moss Vale both finished third in their pools while Exeter and Moss Vale had a battle against much stronger opposition in the girls section.
