Coenen kicks six as Hawks soar

Coenen kicks six as Hawks soar

29 May, 2009 12:36 PM
THE Hawks under-11s showed their first win was not a fluke when they proved too strong for the Albion Park Crows in round five.

The Hawks played the better football into the wind and with Nick Birmingham leading the defence, the Crows were kept from scoring.

Donald Conway kicked the best goal of the match when he slotted one from out wide.

Another strong game by the under-12s, this time against the Roos, sees them as the club’s big improvers.

Now sitting in the top half of the table, their 72-33 win included Edward Bowyer’s goal of the day.

Bowyer gathered the ball from a pack of players and, with lightning quick reflexes, he evaded several tackles.

He managed to put foot to ball for a six pointer as he was finally dragged to the ground.

While the under-15s struggled against the Red Roos, the Hawks completely dominated in their under-13s clash with Dapto Eagles.

It was another mercy rule win for the Hawks as Tim Coenen continued to dominate in the air and came away with another big bag of goals.

His dominance gives all the runners such as Alex Debbs, Luther Canute and Lachlan Maples an armchair ride.

It is difficult to nominate the best players in this side as they all contribute and won clearly all over the ground.

The fledgling Hawks both had good games.

The under-10s clearly outpointed the Roos at Figtree Oval and the goal of the game came from the boot of Jayden O’Brien.

He pulled in a great mark and then put a booming torpedo through the big sticks after the first quarter siren.

The under-9s came up against a well drilled Roos team and while they played great team football to score their goals, the opposition was just a little better on the day.

The Nowra-Highlands under-17s came away with the points in a very tough match where big clashes were the order of the day.

The match clinching goal came in the last quarter when Hunter Schreader-Wright gathered a loose ball on the half back line and handballed to Marco Basaglia who delivered to co-captain, Jordan Pearce.

Pierce passed the ball back to the hard running Basaglia and his long kick deep into the forward line enabled Josh Gibson to boot home another great goal.
