Youngsters turn it on for Moss Vale

20 Nov, 2009 02:22 PM
MOSS Vale High’s Davidson Shield team had another successful campaign but was unable to re-produce the form that made them one of the top 16 schools in the state last year.

The team faced Bombaderry High last Friday for a shot in the final 16 after accounting for Bowral, Goulburn and Crookwell high schools in the preliminary rounds.

The under-15 Hassett Cup team also faced Bombaderry High in the regional semi-final after beating Bowral, Goulburn and Crookwell. Both teams failed to chase down big totals but did finish in the top 32 teams in NSW.

Chasing a massive 249 runs to win only Blake Parker worried the Bomaderry bowlers with 43 in the Hassett Cup match.

In the Davidson Shield, Bomaderry posted a daunting total of 243. Mitchell Finlayson bowled extremely well to finish with 2-25. Cameron Pike (50) smashed a half-century to give Moss Vale some hope but was outclassed by some tight and aggressive bowling.

Coach Matt Nash said the Davidson Cup team played a talented Bombaderry outfit.

“Like the juniors result against Bomaderry, Moss Vale didn’t make the most of their opportunities with dropped catches and fielding errors proving costly,” he said.

“A large part of this team was made up of under-15s which makes their success even more pleasing. These juniors have stood up to bigger and more experienced players and have been helped and guided by the older members of the team.

“On these results the future of Moss Vale High cricket looks promising. Both teams have played well on the field but more importantly, all cricket has been played in the right spirit. Congratulations to both teams on your achievements and good luck for the future,” Mr Nash said.
