THE Wingello Tigers have shaken off their “first grade battlers” tag with their second win in two games.
After registering only one win in the past two seasons, the Tigers have raced into the top four with two wins from their first four games.
In fact, the Tigers have only been soundly beaten once this year and were unlucky in round one against title favourites Coolavin/Workers.
Their win on Saturday came in fine style.
Bowral set Wingello a mammoth 219 for victory, after opener Matt Burke belted the Tigers bowlers on his way to a century.
Wingello’s bowlers, including Andrew Benson (right), struggled to get any help from the synthetic pitch at Stephens Park or the damp ball which refused to swing.
But undaunted by the total, Wingello’s James Baldwin smashed as unbeaten 114 to guide the Tigers to a comfortable win.
They passed Bowral’s total only five wickets down with a handful of overs remaining.
Wins in their remaining two matches, against Moss Vale and Tully Park, could have Wingello in contention for the one day final to be played later in the season.
o IN the all-Goulburn game, defending champions Tully Park scored a one-wicket win over Coolavin/Workers.
On a slow field, Workers scored 9-134 off 44 overs before Tully limped to 9-136 to pick up the competition points.
