HILL Top Northern Villages are in a strong position after the first day of their two-day match against Wingello in their second grade match-up.
Wingello only managed 32 runs during their first innings at the crease on Saturday.
Hill Top captain Simon Reid said the wicket at Lackey Park was ideal for bowlers on the weekend.
Reid said he only used his opening bowlers in his side's innings in the field, with Dean Webb taking 6-12 from a blistering eight over spell.
"We held onto our catches," Reid said.
"James Grib took a good catch and I took a few as keeper, but that was because of the good bowling."
Hill Top went out to the middle and put on 95 runs with James Grib top scoring for his side with 27.
"We all struggled a bit out there," Reid said.
"I think we took it a bit easy."
He said at the close of play on Saturday, Hill Top had already sent Wingello back into bat and Webb had wasted little time, leaving Wingello sitting on 2-30.
"Dean Webb already took a couple of wickets,"
"So he had a really good day."
Reid said his side would look to wrap the match up as early as possible this Saturday.
"Hopefully we'll get the wickets early in the day and if they are a little bit in front then the runs will come."
He said credit should go to the bowlers who took the game out of Wingello's reach.
"We were pretty happy to get the first innings result on the first day."
