ROBERTSON-BURRAWANG were without their two regular opening batsmen on Saturday, but it made little difference as the Spuddies juggernaut posted 7-328 off 53 overs at Bradman Oval.
Missing Ben Buffett and Steve Fairbairn, Robertson showed their depth with Ben Wright and Dean Roxburgh posting 195 for the first wicket as Hill Top’s season continued to slide.
Hill Top’s fielders could only watch and chase as Roxburgh and Wright carted the attack to all corners of the ground.
Roxburgh was eventually out for 120, while Wright fell for 77.
Nathan Wright chipped in with 66 at number three, while Aaron de Jager scored 26 as Robertson cruised to 7-328 before asking Hill Top to bat out the remaining 15 overs.
Hill Top’s day went from bad to worse as they slumped to 4-49 at stumps.
Nathan Wright took two wickets, while Mitchell Wright and Roxburgh took on each.
Hill Top captain Simon Reid said Sebastian Amor-Smith’s 5-64 off 14 overs was one of the Kookaburras’ few highlights.
“We dropped 12 catches and the bottom line is you can’t win if you don’t hold your catches,” Reid said.
“I think we dropped Roxburgh five times - the first when he was only on 10.
“He [Amor-Smith] was the shining light in an otherwise pretty dim day.”
Reid will resume day two on 4, while Marcus Amor-Smith is not out on 0. Jimmy Debs, Ed Lewis, Matt Conquest and Jack Whitfield were the wickets to fall before stumps.
“We’ll go out there and hold them off for as long as possible,” Reid said.
“First innings points will be almost impossible to get, we’ll just try and avoid the outright loss.”
