HIGHLANDS District Cricket Association assistant secretary Simon Reid believes an official Twenty20 competition is two years away from being a permanent fixture on the Highlands cricketing calendar.
Four HDCS teams participated in the new Twenty20 competition this year. According to Reid, the HDCA would investigate ways to include the format on a more regular basis.
“I definitely think it’s going to grow. Twenty20 is the big thing in cricket at the moment, and we’re having a few people asking about it,” Reid said.
“I think Twenty20 is here to stay.”
Reid said after the success of the trial competition, there might be lobbying to have another competition.
“We might have another one in January hopefully, and to try and include more clubs from the HDCA,” he said.
“I reckon in the next two years, there’ll definitely be a proper Twenty20 competition as part of the calendar.”
HDCA deputy chairman Steve Grainger added while the format had its supporters, he felt it would serve best as warm-up to the traditional one and two-day competitions.
