Mixed day in the making

29 Oct, 2008 10:02 AM
THE first day of mixed bowls at Bowral Bowling Club on Saturday didn’t quite turn into a revolution but the club is hoping numbers will pick up over the coming weeks.

Only three women, the ladies president Rosemary King and her two deputies, made the most of the new experiment.

The club has 70 lady bowlers and 132 men and chairman of the recruitment committee Barry Wood said the mixed day was part of broader plan to get new blood on the greens.

“We are making Thursday and Saturdays mixed days to give women bowlers a chance to bowl that they might not get during the week,” he said.

The club is holding a “Fun Day” on November 16 to get as many people, including children, on the greens.

“We want to get more young people at the club. Bowls is becoming a young persons sport,” Wood said.

“It is a game for all ages.”
