JEMMY Moss’s top order flexed their muscles and posted the highest total of the season as Jemmy destroyed second-placed Moss Vale Waratahs with an 82-run win in third grade cricket on Saturday.
Top of the ladder Jemmy Moss batted first and were keen to post a big score after their first loss of the season the week before.
They got off to a flying start when openers Ryan Maughan and Aidan Swanson belted the Waratahs’ attack to all corners of Taylor Avenue, notching up 114 runs off the first 13 overs before Swanson was out for 41.
Moss Vale thought that a wicket may have got them back in the game but the relentless batting assault had only just begun.
Matthew Conquest joined Maughan at the wicket, and Conquest belted three sixes and four fours before the drinks break, while Maughan had recorded three sixes and nine fours. Jemmy Moss were 1-171 at drinks.
Moss Vale were stunned.
Conquest struck a handful of fours straight after drinks before being adjudged leg-before for 49.
Maughan didn’t let the loss of another batting partner slow him down. He recorded his ton not long after drinks before finally being dismissed for 117.
Jemmy Moss captain Andrew Hore chipped in with 46 runs and the competition leaders finished at 9-307 after 40 overs.
Moss Vale bowlers Duncan Urquhart and Chris Smith claimed three wickets each.
Man-of-the-match Maughan, who had just destroyed the Moss Vale bowlers, took the new ball and ripped through the top order with three wickets in his opening spell.
