Finals heat could cook Robertson-Burrawang Spuddies

19 Mar, 2010 04:07 PM
TULLY PARK captain Mik Webber has applied the blowtorch to Robertson-Burrawang’s first graders.

Having already labelled Robertson’s players “cocky” earlier this season, the defending champion’s captain said all the pressure was on the Highlanders heading into tomorrow’s preliminary final.

“I think they will definitely be feeling the heat this weekend,” Webber said.

Not afraid to speak his mind, Webber also wrote off the Highlands other hope, Moss Vale.

Moss Vale qualified for the grand final with a convincing win against Robertson last weekend.

“No disrespect to Moss Vale but I think it would be hard to go past the winner of this weekend taking out the comp,” he said.

With burning words like these, Webber better hope his team produces the goods at Chater Oval tomorrow.

Last time they travelled to the Highlands, Webber and his teammates’ pants were well and truly pulled down.

Still stinging from the “cocky” comments, Robertson rolled the defending champs for only 60 and got the runs two wickets down.

It was the biggest hiding of the season and signified a changing of the guard in the BDCU Cup.

Spuddies president Aaron de Jager knows his team has had little trouble bowling teams out all season.

He said the pressure would be on Webber this weekend.

Webber scored only 31 runs in two bats against Robertson this year as Tully lost both encounters.

With the ball he could manage only four wickets.

“There’s a fair bit of pressure on Mik too,” de Jager said.

“He can say things about us but at the end of the day if he doesn't perform Tully normally get beaten.

“He’s a good cricketer but he needs to worry about his own game.”

Robertson found an unlikely ally in Coolavin captain Jason Apps.

He predicted the Spuds to bounce back from last weekend’s loss.

“It will be a really good game, I reckon,” Apps said.

“I think it was the loss Robbo needed though and it will be a wake up call for them that’s for sure.”
