BOWRAL have finished a long season that marked their comeback into the first-grade competition in fine fashion with a dominant performance on a batsmen-friendly Bradman Oval.
With the bye in the final round next weekend, Bowral’s players were keen to finish on high on Saturday against fellow strugglers Hill Top.
Hill Top’s only win all season came against Bowral back in November, so the Kookaburras headed into the match confident of notching their second win of the season and confining Bowral to the 2009/10 wooden spoon.
But instead, Bowral won the toss and batted on a lightening-fast Bradman surface.
Bowral stormed to be all out for 252 in the final over, their biggest total of the summer.
Liam Hammond and Michael Poulos hit half-centuries for the home team, while Hill Top dropped a number of chances to help Bowral on its way.
The Kookaburras’ Adam Shute, Jimmy Debs, Dean Webb and Sebastian Amor-Smith picked up two wickets each.
In reply, Hill Top were in trouble early at 2-6 before skipper Simon Reid strode to the crease.
Reid lased out at Bowral’s bowlers on his way to 109 before he was out just after the drinks break.
Tim Devitt felt the punishment more than most, being smacked for eight straight fours by Reid.
Hill Top were on track at 4-162 when Reid fell, but collapsed to be all out for 221.
Reid said his team’s plight was made harder because they batted two-men short.
“We could’ve got the runs if we had those extra two blokes,” Reid said.
“So it was disappointing to lose and we dropped so many catches and helped them build that big total.”
