This is the moment the Ashes slipped away from the Australian women’s cricket at Bradman Oval on Monday.
With Australia at 4-198 vice-captain Lisa Sthalekar lashed out at a Beth Morgan delivery and was caught on the offside.
Sthalekar (98) was on track to score the first century of the Test and lead the Southern Stars to an improbable victory on the last day. Kate Blackwell (33) was caught four overs after Sthalekar fell, and with the Aussies at 6-204 the Poms were back in the driver’s seat.
The Aussies stumbled to 9-231 before declaring, giving themselves just under two sessions to bowl out the visitors.
Despite only needing a draw to retain the Ashes, England scored at 2.54 runs an over to chase down the Aussies’ lead of 141 shortly after tea.
