OXLEY’S firsts Basketball team played hard but lost 81-73 against St Stanislaus in Bathurst last weekend.
Coach Phil Cunich said his team played an excellent match with precise offence in the first half and strong defending against much taller opponents.
Oxley lead 42-33 at half time, but experienced foul trouble in the third quarter and Stannies began to gain confidence. The teams were locked at 59-59 all at three-quarter time.
Oxley continued to struggle with foul trouble and fatigue began to be an issue in the final stanza.
Cunich said the team played hard throughout and should be congratulated on a fine effort.
Tom Young top scored with 27 points and was well supported by Morgan Shortt with 14 and Deigh Young with 13.
In other matches the under-15s had a strong win 57-28 and are looking good for the semi-finals.
The under-14s were defeated 38-17 and the Under-13’s lost a close one 31-27.
Oxley travel to Central Coast Grammar on Saturday for their final match before the semi-finals.
