Happy New Year

29 Dec, 2000 12:21 PM
The beginning of one life and the end of another.

Today’s front page, the last of the year, juxtaposes life’s extremes and the opposite feelings conjured by both.

A tragic death on our roads and the beginning of a new life on the most celebrated day of birth in the world.

It has been a year of highs and lows and our two page look today at the year that was should remind us all why this year, more than most, will be long remembered for the right reasons.

Not for many generations will this community share moments like those created by the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.

The Olympic and Paralympic flames ignited tremendous feelings of pride and togetherness in this community.

That widespread feeling is unlikely to surface again in the near future.

As the new year fast approaches, it’s appropriate to reflect on the memorable moments of 2000 and to consider how we should approach 2001.

The new year will bring with it new challenges to this community. If you’re lost for a new year’s resolution, consider becoming actively involved in shaping this shire’s future. There are 1000 ways you can do it.

Rest assured The News will be doing just that - actively promoting the Highlands as a wonderful place, worthy of looking after.

From everyone at The News, enjoy a happy new year. We’ll be back with the first issue of 2001 on Monday.
