Wingecarribee Shire’s residential rates could rise by $72 if a council move to fund its infrastructure renewal and environment programs through a single rate rise is approved.
Council will ask the Department of Local Government to approve a 13.74 per cent increase in its general rate revenue instead of making separate applications to increase the general rate and extend its environmental levy.
Department officers have told Council that Local Government Minister Paul Lynch would not consider separate rate variation applications for a 9.5 per cent rate revenue increase and to continue a 4.51 per cent Wingecarribee Our Future Environment (WOFE) levy.
As a result, Council voted on Wednesday to seek a single rate variation that would be equivalent to a 9.5 per cent rate increase plus a 3.74 per cent environment levy.
