You can bet on the TAB for relief

31 Dec, 2001 08:17 AM

TAB Limited has pledged its 1,900 strong statewide Agency network to the NSW Government’s Christmas 2001 Bush Fire Relief Appeal to aid victims of the current fire disaster.

Members of the community can now lodge donations to the Fund over the counter at any TAB Agency, PubTAB or ClubTAB across New South Wales.

Donations will also be accepted by TAB staff at major NSW race meetings, and TAB’s 190,000 phone and internet customers can utilise their account funds to make a tax deductible donation by calling 132699.

“This type of disaster effects the whole community.

“Our agency network criss-crosses the State, and is open extended hours, so we are delighted to make it available to help the relief campaign,” commented TAB Limited Managing Director, Warren Wilson.

“What we are hoping is that the accessibility of our Agencies will assist people wanting to donate cash to the appeal.”

Mr Wilson complimented staff members at TAB Agencies, as well as peak organisations Clubs NSW and the Australian Hotels Association (NSW), for their enthusiasm and support of the initiative.

“People making donations over the counter will receive a transaction card that will show the amount they have given.

TAB staff will write the customer’s name on the card to provide applicable tax concession status.

“If this initiative can help boost the Government’s Relief Appeal in even a small way, then it will be worthwhile.

“We anticipate the network of agencies that are all open seven days a week will continue to accept donations for the fund well into the New Year.”

Mr Wilson said TAB Limited would kick-start the scheme with an initial donation of $20,000.
