Work has begun on a long-overdue reconstruction of one of Bowral's main commercial thoroughfares, funded by the Federal Government's Roads to Recovery program.
Disruption to motorists during the half million-dollar upgrade would be kept to a minimum, Wingecarribee Shire Council said.
The work was planned to reconstruct 240m of road along with 350m of kerbing and guttering and the footpath around Corbett Gardens.
The works are scheduled to be finished by November 17, and council general manager David McGowan said council would use night works to avoid inconvenience to the public.
"There will be some disruption to traffic flow during the construction although this will be kept to a minimum," Mr McGowan said.
There will be part-road closures during the day until November 1 and from November 10 to 17 and whole-road closures at night from November 2 to 7.
During the four-year Roads to Recovery program Wingecarribee Shire Council would receive a total of $3 million, including the $500,000 for the Merrigang Street project.
Mayor Phil Yeo said the program has also benefited Kirkham Road, Bowral, Tugalong Road, Canyon Leigh and Old Bowral Road, Mittagong.
"The importance of such funding to this shire cannot be underestimated," he said.
