Whatever happened to providing services?

Dear Sir,

I thought councils were there to provide services for the community in each Shire.

Council boasts that they have in excess of $37 million dollars in their bank account and now they haven’t got the resources to keep on providing the upkeep of our local pools, however they will be in favour of an aquatic centre (probably to be built in Bowral).

So, please explain:

1. There are more than 20 schools (including primary, secondary, private and public) how are they going to have their swimming carnivals at the beginning of each school year. By the time the last school carnival is held it will probably sometime in winter.

2. Most local school children in each township/village ride, walk etc to their local pool. How are they going to get to the aquatic centre (wherever it may be). Mum’s and dad’s having to provide transport. Is Council going to provide community buses daily from outlying townships to the aquatic centre?

3. This aquatic centre better have at least three Olympic size pools because Council keeps on saying this is a growing area. I thought it makes sense to have our current pools spread over the whole Southern Highlands to cope with this ever-increasing population.

4. How much is this going to cost a person to enter the aquatic centre? $5 or more? Because someone will have to pay for the upkeep of this centre.

Let’s amalgamate the local pools into one centre, just like we amalgamated the council, for the good of the community!

Maybe Council should close all the township libraries next, and have one large central library maybe in Bowral!

Yours faithfully,

F. Carr,

Colo Vale.
