PAINTING, cleaning, sorting, building - it will all be in a day's work at Welby Garden Centre.
The centre, which is operated by Challenge Southern Highlands Incorporated and provides work and training for people with disabilities, will be conducting a working bee tomorrow to "spruce things up".
Challenge general manager Tony McElhinney said there were plenty of projects to be tackled.
"We want to do the things that we never get time to do during the normal working days - it's been a while since we did some of these chores," he said.
However, Mr McElhinney said the success of the working bee relied on the support of volunteers.
"There are a lot of things we'd like to achieve, but what we can do in a day will depend a lot on the weather and the number of volunteers we attract."
Mr McElhinney's wish list of achievements includes painting, construction of an accessible toilet in the women's bathroom, building an igloo (a tunnel used for growing plants) and generally sorting out items that have accumulated over the years.
"We basically need plenty of hands on deck and some good practical knowledge, but assistance from someone with carpentry skills would also be good," he said.
"A free sausage sizzle will be available to all volunteers."
The Welby Garden was established by Challenge Southern Highlands Incorporated in 1981 to provide supported work and training for adults with disabilities.
In addition to the nursery the centre has been involved in several other work projects including the insertion of brochures and leaflets in newspapers and the wrapping of newspapers.
Mr McElhinney said the centre provided work for about 40 people with disabilities offering a much needed service in the community.
"There is a lot of support for children with disabilities, but that support diminishes with age," he said.
"That's why we are here and our challenge is to continue to provide work and training for adults with disabilities especially at a time when sales have dropped in the nursery."
