Unsafe footpath forces walkers onto the road

30 May, 2005 08:28 AM
Elderly residents, children on bikes, visitors with luggage and parents with prams are being forced to walk or ride on the Bundanoon's busy Railway Avenue because the footpath is unsafe.

Railway Parade residents have called on Wingecarribee Shire Council to build a footpath to replace the unsealed track between Brigadoon Drive and William Street.

Railway Avenue resident Kathleen Russell has to walk on the road when going to the shop, as she cannot pull her shopping trolley along narrow and steep sections of the path.

"It's hazardous, but it's the only way I can get anywhere," she said.

The path is also used by visitors walking from the Bundanoon Railway Station to the Youth Hostel and Tree Tops Guest House, many carrying backpacks or pulling luggage.

"It can be quite treacherous and a lot of our guests are elderly," said Tree Tops owner Harry Hull.

"We try to get people to Bundanoon, and during Bundanoon is Brigadoon it's a shame to say 'wait for a bus because you can't walk 500 metres down the road'."
