Two injured in car crash

07 Apr, 2003 04:21 PM
Traffic on the Old Hume Highway at Braemar was disrupted on Friday following a two-vehicle collision which resulted in at least two people being taken to hospital by ambulance.

The accident occurred at about 9.45am when a vehicle turning out of Braemar Avenue onto the Old Hume collided with an oncoming second vehicle.

Both cars were badly damaged in the accident with one driver trapped in his vehicle for a considerable time while he waited for the services of rescue personnel to cut him free.

Four ambulances rushed to the accident scene with both cars spinning around in the course of the collision.

Eyewitness Katie Byrne passed the accident scene and recalled seeing one of the cars spinning across the road, unaware the driver was a family friend.

Miss Byrne said the driver of the Subaru station wagon was a 17-year-old student from Chevalier College in Burradoo.

"When my brother and I got closer we realised it was someone we knew so we jumped out of our car," Miss Byrne said.

"He had just dropped one of his friends off and was on his way home to finish studying for his exams.

"He is still in hospital with a punctured lung, broken ribs and concussion."

Police are still investigating the cause of the accident.

Anyone with information can call Bowral Police on 4862 9299.
