THEY took 20 staff three-and-half-days to plant back in April, but most of the 100,000 tulip bulbs in Corbett Gardens were gone in just three hours on Saturday morning.
Gardeners and tulip lovers from as far as the Central Coast lined up at the garden gates from 8am to take home their own piece of Tulip Time colour.
The best prepared had chosen their favourite colours during Tulip Time, some even returning with maps of the park with target beds marked. (Purple flowering bulbs disappeared fast).
Council staff were kept busy keeping up with the demand for pre-dug bulbs, which sold out by early morning.
Visitors Jim Harman and Judy Bradbury left Gorikan on the Central Coast at 5.30am to be sure to getting to Corbett Park before the bulbs disappeared.
“We read about it in the paper and we thought ‘that sounds like a good day out’,” Mr Harman said.
“We’ll see what comes up and hopefully it will be pretty.”
Diggers from Hornsby, North Rocks and Sydney’s Northern Beaches, joined local gardeners planning to expand tulip beds established after previous visits to the Tulip Time bulb dig-up.
