The Land and Environment Court slapped a senior Wollongong City Council employee with a $180,000 fine on Friday, for clearing endangered woodlands in Braemar.
A 54-year-old Wollongong man, Dennis Charles Williams pleaded guilty to two charges of picking an endangered ecological community on his Biggera Street property in Braemar.
The court heard the accused, who works as a senior administrator for Wollongong City Council, hired a contractor to cut down nearly 50 endangered Southern Highlands Shale Woodlands on his property, while waiting for the results of an application he had lodged with Wingecarribee Council to subdivide the land.
