Tree crashes through roof

27 Aug, 2003 05:32 PM
A quiet night in turned to disaster for one Colo Vale family after a tree crashed through the roof of their house during the windstorm.

Resident Anne Haase said the family was asleep when the gum tree next to their house crashed down onto the roof just above her daughter Elizabeth.

"At around 9pm we heard this loud crack and we thought it was just a branch falling on the house," she said.

"But then we came outside and saw that it wasn't just a branch, there was a whole tree on our house."

The fallen tree caused extensive damage to the Haase home.

"There's a massive crack in the ceiling of Lizzy's room, which kept getting bigger and bigger throughout the night," Mrs Haase said.

"It broke the tiles, the eaves are ruined, and the bricks look to have come loose where the branches have fallen on them.

"We're just really lucky, it could have been much worse.

"All it really did was give poor Lizzy an awful fright."
