Bill Walker is looking forward to the Moss Vale and District Show this weekend despite the changes that have taken place during his half-century of involvement.
The 76-year-old from Joadja is the longest serving member of the committee, having helped organise 44 shows during its 122-year history.
And, while not a fan of the new amusement rides that were springing up at the showground this week, he is confident this weekend will be a beauty.
“I’ve been coming since they brought me here in a pram,” he said.
“I used to be in charge of the sheep and wool; back in these days, the area was nearly all sheep. The biggest part of them only come to see these side shows these days,” he said.
The annual show starts today with a fire service demonstration, sheepdog displays, local bands, motocross and evening fireworks. The official opening will be at 2pm tomorrow starring country artist James Blundell (full story inside the Highlands Weekender today).
Other highlights include the livestock shows, keg throwing, dog high-jumping, hay-stacking, and of course the demolition derby.
