IN recent months, so many young performers have stepped from the Sydney Eisteddfod platform into opera, dance, musical theatre and television productions the historic competition is gaining reputation as a gateway to the stairway to the stars.
The 2012 Syllabus is packed with events for singers, dancers, musicians and actors of all ages and types, along with sections for choirs, bands, orchestras, and dance and drama groups.
The $57,000 McDonald's Operatic Aria and the $36,000 McDonald's Ballet Scholarships will be major highlights of the festival, while valuable piano, instrumental and chamber music awards, two smaller operatic scholarships and a junior ballet scholarship also feature importantly in the program.
Other key events include dance championships for boys only, actor's championships, senior and junior Contemporary Singer of the Year titles and a brand new contest for solo contemporary/rock guitarists.
In 2011, The Frensham Madrigals performed splendidly in the choral division and this year the program for choirs will shape as a three-day festival in the Concert Hall at the new Chatswood Concourse.
This will run from June from 15-17 June with youth and primary school choirs competing on the first day, open choirs on the second and culminate with all placegetters participating in the finals of the prestigious Sydney Eisteddfod John Lamble Foundation Australasian Choral Championships on the third.
The 2012 Sydney Eisteddfod opens on June 3, so you have plenty of time to perfect your act.
