Telstra has announced that Yerrinbool, Lakesland and Hill Top exchanges have been upgraded to receive ADSL broadband internet as a result of Telstra's ADSL Demand Register, and help from the Australian Government's Higher bandwidth Incentive Scheme. (HiBIS).
Telstra has been registered as an ADSL provider under the Australian Government scheme, and is using the incentive offered to reduce the demand levels on its ADSL Demand Register.
As a result of the scheme, the required level of customer demand of Yerrinbool and Hill Top dropped to 50, while the Lakesland exchange required 30 expressions of interest.
More than 80 individuals and businesses from Yerrinbool, 40 from Lakesland and 140 from Hill Top indicated their demand for broadband using Telstra's ADSL Demand Register, which empowers local communities to determine new investment in Telstra broadband services.
Telstra Country Wide Area general manager for Illawarra Mr Mark McKenzie congratulated the people of Yerrinbool, Lakesland and Hill Top on their community spirit.
"These people have banded together to get broadband based on interest expressed through the national ADSL Demand Register," Mr McKenzie said.
"The ADSL Broadband registration scheme was launched in October 2003 to encourage broadband take-up and to help direct the future rollout to places where the service was most wanted.
