Tangara students' new bus

07 Nov, 2003 07:13 AM
Tangara School students will be zipping around the Highlands in a brand new school bus, thanks to the generosity of local businesses, charities and Variety.

The money for the wheelchair-friendly vehicle was raised through a series of Variety fundraisers around the state and locally.

In what Variety's bus committee chair Geoff Davis describes as their most "novel" fundraiser, four local men went in the annual Variety Bush Bash.

He said Variety tried to keep the money raised by local people in the local community.

Kommitee of Kollege of Knowledge for Kids (KKKK) members Nick and Angus Campbell-Jones and Neil Wallis brought their fundraising Bush Bash car to Wednesday's celebration, held to thank those who had given money to the bus fund.

Tangara Principal Linda McLaughlin also thanked members of MAKATAK and Peter and Marcelle Bain from McDonalds, Mittagong for helping with the ongoing maintenance costs of the bus.

"This bus is just so important to us for getting the students to activities in the community, and for getting the Moss Vale special class students here to us," she said.

"The P and C have been just wonderful, especially the president Leanne Dole and the treasurer Angela McKinlay who have basically coordinated the whole thing."

She also thanked the wider Southern Highlands community for their ongoing support of Tangara School.

Mr Davis said as far as Variety volunteers were concerned, the effort was all worthwhile when they saw the smiling faces of the children of Tangara.
