A SPECIAL variety concert will be held on Thursday, July 5, to help veteran Southern Highlands performer and singing bus driver, David Furey, who is undergoing treatment for bowel cancer.

Mr Furey, 53, from Moss Vale, has starred in numerous musicals and shows with the Highlands Theatre Group, most recently in Miss Saigon last year.
Also known as the "singing bus driver" due to his jovial banter with his Berrima Bus Lines passengers and tendency to launch into song at every green light, Mr Furey is undergoing intensive treatment and ongoing surgery for bowel cancer, which has taxed his time, energy and his family's financial resources.
Friends in the Highlands Theatre Group and Mr Furey's many friends in Sydney from his Qantas air crew days have rallied to organise a fun night of entertainment on July 5 to help raise money for Mr Furey and his family to help them through this challenging time.
The 2.5-hour concert at 7pm at Mittagong Playhouse will feature up to 50 talented singers, dancers and comedians who have donated their time to help Mr Furey, who has entertained so many theatre goers with his wit, voice and on-stage antics.
Lucky door, raffle and mystery balloon prizes will also be up for grabs, thanks to the support of sponsors such as Solar Springs Health Retreat, which is donating a day of pampering for two people at the Bundanoon resort valued at $420, a $400 pearl necklace from Taylor and Jackson, a night at the Gibraltar Hotel valued at $260, a dinner cruise for two from Captain Cook Cruises valued at $250, juke box hire from Powerpoint Music valued at $250, a $200 voucher from Harry and Paul men's clothing store and $200 from Nina Leon shoe store in addition to many other prizes.
