STUDENTS at Moss Vale Public School got a nice surprise on Monday when the school received almost $4000 from a local business.
Ashcroft's Supa IGA Moss Vale donated $3823.17 to the school from its Community Trust Fund.
Principal Laurie Connery accepted the donation from IGA's Sharlene Parker on behalf of the school at Monday morning's school assembly.
One cent from every IGA branded item sold goes into the fund and is regularly distributed to different groups and organisations within the community.
A previous recipient of the donation was Father Chris Riley's charity Youth off the Streets.
"The IGA in Moss Vale is highly supportive of the community in terms of what they're giving back for families shopping there," Mr Connery said.
The school will use the money to purchase tablet computers to assist the students in a range of learning activities.
"We're moving towards the use of tablet computers more and more because that's a much stronger way of getting children using the tools effectively," he said.
"We have a computer lab with laptops but the tablets provide a much more mobile way of learning.
"The students can learn in small groups or pairs given the tablet device which will support a number of ways of learning in different places, either in the classroom or research in the library and it is not restricted to use on the desk.
"The kids can sit down with them together on the floor or on chairs."
