Studio 54 party postponed

29 Dec, 2000 11:05 AM
Partygoers for the planned Studio 54 party on New Year’s Eve will have to keep their glitzy costumes in the cupboard for a few months.

The planned fundraiser for the Berrima District Rescue Squad has been posponed due to a lack of subscription.

Event organiser and local hairdresser Troy Thompson said he could not go ahead with the party due to inadequate financial support.

The RSVP date for the party was December 20, and Mr Thompson said all those wanting to attend were aware that if he did not have the money by that date, the party could not be held.

“I had the numbers but no one had come up and paid,” he said.

However, there is some salvation for those who were looking forward to the night as Mr Thompson said the event has been rescheduled for Saturday April 7.

Mr Thompson also said the sponsors for the night were also willing to hold out until the new date.

The Studio 54 party was to be inspired by the famous New York nightclub, which became world-renowned in the 70s and 80s.

Mirror balls, a circular bar, two dancefloors, raised seating platforms and a love lounge were to transform the Bowral Memorial Hall in to the infamous Studio 54 atmosphere.

Mr Thompson is well known for his local extravaganzas which include the masquerade ball and the ‘wiggarrama’ for the KKKK.

It was expected 300 people would fill Bowral Memorial Hall for the new millennium party.
