MEMBERS of the NSW Parliament and press gallery wore wrist bands in memory of 15-year-old Mittagong cyclist Ben Mikic yesterday.
Money raised will support the Ben Mikic Foundation, established to promote bike safety and education following Ben’s death in a road accident in April, 2007.
The Ben Mikic Foundation has developed an education program aimed at educating young cyclists and primary aged students about cycling safety, as well as lobbying for safer cycling facilities.
Speaker of the House Richard Torbay told Parliament that Ben’s death was one of 35 deaths a year on NSW roads.
“With over 2,500 people seriously injured in similar collisions, the efforts of the Ben Mikic Foundation should be applauded.”
Member for Southern Highlands Pru Goward and Member for Macquarie Fields Andrew McDonald distributed the Ben Mikic Foundation wristbands to colleagues.
