From South Africa to the Southern Highlands, the Duff family are the latest residents to become Australian citizens.
About 25 adults and children from across the globe became citizens at the official Australia Day ceremony in Berrima.
David and Debby Duff, with their children Richard and Abby, left Cape Town about three years ago when the crime rate was creeping higher and moving closer to their backyard.
"Living behind burglar bars is not the life we wanted for our children," Debby said.
"Australia offered a better future and a safer environment."
