Retired police officer James Breeze smiles when he thinks back on the strange day he picked up a man for drink driving.
The cop was driving to the police station with his unwilling passenger when the latter opened a bag and released a snake in the car.
It was an original but doomed escape attempt - after all, how could the man have known his arrester was a trained snake handler?
After two decades in "snake rescue" for the police, James Breeze, now a Bowral resident, has a host of such amusing anecdotes up his sleeve.
But, as the weather warmed up last week, Mr Breeze also had a serious message: it is a crime to kill a snake.
