Small business benefits from cash flow seminar

29 May, 2002 08:20 AM

Small businesses of the Southern Highlands were shown how to better manage their cashflow at a workshop at the Bradman Museum this week.

The Southern Highlands Business Chamber (SHBC) in conjunction with NSW Department of State and Regional Development (DSRD) ran the free three-hour seminar.

"The reason we decided to run this workshop is because the month of May is small business month," course coordinator, Rhonda Lawrie said.

Mrs Lawrie continued by saying that this workshop is one in a number run by the DSRD and that it was important for the businesses in the Southern Highlands to be given the opportunity to attend such a course.

The NSW DSRD engaged Garry Pinch from Accounting Professional to present this specially designed workshop to help the operators of small businesses.

The seminar entailed a range of topics including budgeting for success, cashflow management, pitfalls to avoid in business, how to identify opportunities and success strategies to apply to small businesses.

"The purpose behind the seminar was to create an awareness within small businesses that cashflow can become a problem from time to time," Mrs Lawrie said.

"What we are trying to do for the operators is to show them how to identify cashflow concerns within their business and the skills to deal with them before they become a problem."

The workshops were the initiative of DSRD and were attended by 50 people.

The groups were kept small and split between the Monday evening and Tuesday Morning courses because the workshop was an interactive one.

"I would like to thank the staff at the Bradman Museum for providing us with the venue," Mrs Lawrie said.

The SHBC and the NSW DSRD are looking at running another seminar later in the year depending on the level of interest shown.

If anyone would like more information on the course they can ring Michele Scamps on (02) 4871 3232.
