The Shipton Group has asked Wingecarribee Shire Council to waive $24,762 in parking contributions for Clarence House in Moss Vale.
The company has asked council not to impose the contribution in lieu of three parking spaces, following council’s decision to seek contributions for only four additional parking spaces for the Mittagong Central underground restaurant.
The restaurant has a shortfall of 28 car parking spaces, but under a development control plan council can reduce parking requirements for bars or hotels where enough parking is available in the evening.
Nigel Sharpe of the Shipton Group said 60 car parking spaces had been provided on two levels at Clarence House.
He said there were more than 500 public car parking spaces available next to the Clarence Street development.
“Whatever the reasons that prompted council’s decision in respect of Mittagong Central, we cannot imagine more favourable parking facilities than those that exist at Clarence House, Moss Vale,” Mr Sharpe said, in a letter to council.
Clarence House includes 1300 square metres of groundfloor retail or commercial space and up to 17 office suites. The building is expected to be completed early in 2008.
A rescission motion by Cr Nick Campbell-Jones on the Mittagong Central decision will be considered at today’s council meeting.
