Southern Highland MP Peta Seaton welcomed John Brogden's announcement this week that the NSW Liberals have rejected the Carr Government's draconian Occupational Health and Safety (Workplace Fatalities) Bill and has called on the Carr Government to drastically rethink the bill.
Ms Seaton said businesses from the Highlands, as well as Macarthur and Illawarra had contacted her to protest against the Carr Government's plans.
"These are local businesses who are responsible, and very keen to provide safe workplaces and work with employees continuously to improve safety," Ms Seaton said.
"They simply see these new laws as draconian and unnecessary, which could force good employers out of business."
The NSW Coalition has rejected the Carr Government's draconian Occupational Health and Safety (Workplace Fatalities) Bill and has called on the Government to drastically rethink the legislation, NSW Liberal Leader John Brogden, NSW Leader of The Nationals Andrew Stoner and Shadow Industrial Relations Minister Chris Hartcher said.
"Unless the Government goes back to the drawing board on this issue, they will get no support from the Coalition," Mr Brogden said.
"This Bill treats every employer in NSW as a criminal. It's a compete capitulation to the Unions from the Carr Government."
Mr Brogden said the legislation would be bad for business in NSW, particularly for small and medium sized businesses.
"Why would anyone want to start up a small business in NSW with legislation like this on the books?"
Mr Stoner said small business was the biggest employer in NSW.
"Regional businesses have had enough of draconian legislation such as this - it's forcing more and more businesses and jobs interstate," Mr Stoner said.
