Seaton ready for 2007

24 Apr, 2006 10:08 AM
Only one more formality needs to be ratified to formally endorse the Liberal Party's Peta Seaton as a candidate for the new State seat of Goulburn.

Although her nomination for the Seat has been unopposed, Ms Seaton said last week there was one more branch formality to undertake before the Goulburn Electorate Conference signs off on her official endorsement.

"I will be attending the conference in the Southern Highlands on May 30 where I will be required to give a formal presentation after which members will have the final say in my endorsement for the March 2007 State election," Ms Seaton said.

"While obviously anything can happen at meetings, I am the only candidate."

The Goulburn name was abolished at the 1991 State election when the Seat of Southern Highlands replaced the electorate of Goulburn, due to a boundary change.

In a controversial move, that election saw the Member for Camden and premier John Fahey shift to Southern Highlands and force out the disenfranchised Member for Goulburn Robert Webster, despite the then revised Southern Highlands Seat claiming a majority of Mr Webster's territory.

Goulburn remained as part of Southern Highlands until the 1998 election when another boundary adjustment placed the district in the electorate of Burrinjuck.

Due to population explosions in western Sydney, the 2007 boundary change sees the creation of the new seat of Wollondilly.
