SCRATCHED: The cost of cancelling Bong Bong

Trainers, owners, jockeys and punters are all clearly hurting as the Highlands’ premier race day falls victim to the equine flu crisis.

But a walk around the streets of Bowral soon reveals that the cancellation of Bong Bong will affect many others.

With shop owners ordering up big for the fashion event of the year, the cancellation has definitely been bad for business.

“Caterers, taxis, restaurants, pubs, hairdressers, motels - everyone will be affected,” Trish Boswell of Kish in Bowral said.

“It has been a big disappointment. This is the first time we’ve tried to sell hats.

“We ordered them back in July and now we can’t send them back,” Ms Boswell said.

“I don’t see why they can’t have something else, just for fun. Everyone just wants to dress up and have a good time,” Katie Boswell said.
