Federal member for Hume Alby Schultz stated on Monday that Telstra has made clear it was not interested in servicing regional and rural Australia where it did not receive commercial returns.
Schultz’s comments follow the forced extension of the CDMA network from January 28 to April 28 by federal communications minister Senator Stephen Conroy last week.
Schultz said he had received more than 100 complaints about the new Telstra Next G network, claiming the number one complaint from his constituents was the dropout rate of the network.
"I had one complaint from a group of people whose car had set on fire, but despite, all the passengers having Next G phones, they could not contact emergency services. They had to hail down a driver who luckily had a CDMA phone," Schultz said.
