Sandra's a proud top Lion

30 Oct, 2002 08:00 AM

A Mittagong Lioness has roared her way to the top spot as the Lions District Governor for 2003-2004.

Sandra Treble from the Mittagong Lions Club was nominated by her club to this prestigious position after serving as a legal officer for two past District Governors, as well as having held various positions since 1993.

Ms Treble said the reason she joined the organisation in 1990 was because all members wanted to give something back to the community.

"All clubs get satisfaction by accomplishing things together that the members couldn't do on their own," Ms Treble said.

"Helping people gives Lions a sense of purpose and great pride."

Ms Treble added that although she did not expect this nomination, she was very honoured to receive it.

"My club showed extraordinary faith and trust by nominating me and I am incredibly proud that they did," Ms Treble said.

"As District Governor I will be looking after the 1600 members from Merrylands in the north to Eden in the south, Canberra in the west to Wollongong in the east. That is over 80 clubs.

"Many people have said to me over the past five years that I should stand for Governor but only now do I feel ready because it is a lot of responsibility but I will work hard at it and do my best."

Ms Treble said she loved being a part of Lions because the members strived for anything that could alleviate suffering.

"The members are wonderful people who do such a variety of things for their communities," Ms Treble said.

"They will do anything from fixing an old lady's fence to raising money for causes such as the Lions Spinal Cord Project."
