Of course, Michael Johnson wasn't lugging a 50kg sack of potatoes, unlike the contenders who will line up for the Australian Championship Potato Race at the Robertson Show on Saturday, March 10.
The Australian Championship Potato Races have been a highlight of the Robertson Show for as long as organiser Trevor Donovan can remember.
"It stops the show when the potato race starts and everyone comes to watch," Trevor said.
Although similar events are held in Victoria and now at Rosehill Racecourse over shorter distances, Robertson's event is the Melbourne Cup of the potato racing world.
Renowned potato racers of the past include local farmer Shane Whatman, who won the event seven years in a row and retired undefeated.
