Riders pedal the MS message

Riding 92 kilometres might not be everyone’s cup of tea but for Jim Cush the cycling event is a great way to raise money for Multiple Sclerosis.

Mr Cush is one of 12 Highlands residents that will enter the Sydney to Gong Bike Ride to not only support MS but to have some fun on Sunday.

The event will offer two start points, the 92-kilometre start from Moore Park Sydney and the 58-kilometre start from Cooper Street Reserve in Engadine.

Long distance events are not new to Mr Cush who was a cross country runner before he had a knee operation five years ago.

Since then he has been participating in the fundraiser and said the social side kept him going back for more.

In the lead-up to the race, Mr Cush will continue his 50-kilometre cycle on a Saturday as well as walking

“Not everyone wants to ride 92 kilometres. I reach my uncomfortable zone in the last 20,” he said.

“And by that stage there is not much left in your legs.”

More than 10,000 people are expected to participate including Olympian Michelle Ferris and members of the NSW Wheelchair Sports Association.

The money raised from the ride will be used for research into the cure and needs of young people with MS.

MS is the most common disease of the central nervous system and affects people aged between 20 and 40.
