24 Feb, 2006 08:51 AM
An 18-year-old Bowral man and a 19-year-old Bowral woman were arrested on Wednesday afternoon after Bowral Police received a tip-off that a man and a woman were walking up and down Bong Bong Street in Bowral holding hand guns.

Police said the couple was seen acting suspiciously in Bunters Furnishings at about 2.30pm. Witnesses told police the girl was in possession of what appeared to be a hand gun.

Police arrived at the scene soon after, tackling both offenders to the ground as they went to enter the Whistle and Pop Party Shop.

The man and the woman were handcuffed in the store and taken to Bowral Police Station.

Police later ascertained that both were carrying toy replica pistols. The girl was also in possession of pistol starter caps.

The man has been charged with intimidation, assaulting police and custody of an offensive implement in a public place, police said.

The woman was charged with the same three offences as well as goods in custody and custody of a knife in public.

Both were both refused bail and appeared in Moss Vale Local Court yesterday. Both cases have been adjourned.
