Renwick subdivision rezoning approved

24 Nov, 2005 03:40 PM
Wingecarribee Shire Council has approved rezoning of the site of the Renwick residential site, clearing the way for development of Landcom's 600-lot subdivision.

Council has endorsed a draft LEP to rezone the site from special uses (child welfare) and rural smallholdings zones to residential "A", special uses (school) and proposed local road.

The rezoning will permit the erection of 600 dwellings, including public open space, special uses (school) and a local road.

Council will now seek approval from the Department of Planning to publicly exhibit the draft Local Environment Plan (LEP) for Renwick and will begin negotiations with Landcom towards a voluntary planning agreement.

At Wednesday's council meeting, councillors praised Landcom's efforts to address community concerns and achieve the best result for the site.

"Landcom has gone to the nth degree in terms of community consultation and gone to great lengths to put forward a plan that retains as much as they can in terms of the ambience of the area," said Cr Malcolm Murray.

However, Cr Murray said council would need to ensure that it was not left to "pick up the tab" for maintaining the large amount of public space incorporated in the development.
